Diversity?

I was reading this article today and instead of commenting on the actual website and dealing with tons of people trash talking and trying to out do one another so I'll voice my opinion here.

Here's the article: Vanity Fair Diversity?

Recap: Vanity Fair published an issue with the new hot hollywood actresses, they were all white and now there's uproar over it.

While I'm sure that there are many young actresses that are up and coming of different ethinicities, I don't think this is news worthy. I am not racist, but I do feel that lately people have been crying foul so much that it's just gotten a little old. I was brought up that if you don't like something change it. I'm not sure what the point of the article was...but if you don't agree with the people who published the Vanity Fair article then do something about it. Publish your own list of up and coming actresses, or better yet work at getting the job at Vanity Fair that decides who goes in the magazines and make sure there's diversity in every photo shoot. Sitting here an bitching about it isn't going to the change the photo or the list of people mentioned. The author of the article also brings up how the girls were described, "downy-soft cheeks," "button nose," "patrician looks and celebrated pedigree," "dewy, wide-eyed loveliness," "Ivory-soap-girl"downy-soft cheeks," "button nose," "dewy, wide-eyed loveliness," "Ivory-soap-girl " while these do desribe white females, obviously this words would not have been used. Really you're upset about word choice? Not to mention these women have been in more than one movie, the people she mentioned were in one movie. I think that research needed to be done to figure out how the women were chosen, was there criteria? Was it all opinion. If it was all opinion then maybe the person who wrote this thought these were the top girls? There's no fault in that.

I'm not downplaying the seriousness of racial equality but I think there are more important things going on in the the world, no in our country than whether or not there is diversity on the cover of Vanity Fair. I'm just so annoyed by people focusing on such small things when there are bigger issues all over the world. Am I being close minded and unsympathetic or do you agree?

All opinions welcome as always :)

peace&love
