it's getting cooler outside :). huge smile on my face, this is my favorite time of year. I love layering up, putting on a warm scarf, and snuggling up to the personal space heater (also named e) i have around me constantly.
my boys barely...no that's not even the right word. They tiptoed by the hair on their chins into a win on Sunday...there will be no complaints here though because a win is a win :) especially against the redskins.
my birthday is coming up soon (as in two days soon) and i can't wait. My mom is coming up here tomorrow to spend it with me, then it's hanging out with e, thanksgiving dinner at his parents on thursday and then cooperstown on friday to have our second thanksgiving dinner and a little birthday celebration with my friends. I CAN NOT WAIT.
I miss my family terribly, it's rough being this far away but I can't imagine not being here.
Quick thought that the past few months have made me realize. I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO PARALLEL PARK. I live in a city where it's nearly impossible to park without knowing how to parallel park. It's pitiful, me driving by space after space because I don't know how to get my car in it. Walking two blocks to my apartment because I'm the only person in Albany that can't park. Oh virginia...when i was 16 i thought the driving instructor who let me have my license without learning this vital skill was awesome...now I resent him.
Here are some other vital skills I've learned you need in order to survive on your own:
-using a microwave. today you don't need to know how to cook a four course meal with a stove or oven, all you have to be able to do is push a few buttons and know which is start. They have vegetables, rolls, meat, deserts, drinks everything and anything and all of it can be cooked in a microwave. Either our society is getting a little bit too lazy or everyone is in college...i vote laziness
-simple car maintenance. example: jumping your car, changing a tire. I've had both of these situations happen to me since I've moved out on my own and neither were resolved by me. Girl or Boy this is something that you need. We've all seen the horror movies where the car breaks down or gets a flat and the people are kidnapped and killed because they went to the nearest house to get help changing a flat...having knowledge would have saved them all;or having AAA.
-hide 40 dollars in your wallet. ok this is more of an advice thing...so it should probably be farther down in this post. but i learned from a friend to always have 40 dollars hidden in your wallet. you never know when you'll need a cab, an emergency pack of ciggs, or supplies to jump your car so you don't have to go to that house down the road
-know how to let loose. this is a very vital skill. it you don't learn how to let loose once you're in the real world you'll drive yourself mad. sometimes life gets hard, that's a given...but sometimes you need to sit back and relax when it gets bad. let some steam off and have a dance party (britney spears is my dance party artist choice) you'll be amazed at how fantastic you feel after.
I was looking through my myspace page, debating on whether i should delete it or not (there are pros and cons...pros are probably just as much cons as they are pros but because i'm not ready to delete it they are going to stay pros) and came across a blog i had posted quite a long time ago. It's a coloumn written by Mary Schmich it was published in the Chicago Tribune, and is probably one of my favorite writings...it's so simple and so true. A song was made out of it, which I like because it makes it a little more fun to listen to. So here you go, a little advice from Mary Schmich.
When I first heard/read this it inspired me to dispence my advice, oh and trust me I did. If you've ever talked with me you'll know I love giving advice...since that first time this idea has grown into a mission.
I want to have something like this for my children...on their 16th, 18th birthday, or graduation. Obviously the technical stuff hasn't been ironed out, but I know for sure I want to have something like this for them.
I tried doing this for my sister when I gave her a present for her graduation...and I think I did pretty well. I have two more sisters graduating and fully plan to do the same for them. So as a practice I thought I'd put some of it here.
-don't over analyze things, over analyzing is just a way to see something that isn't there
-cry. everyone needs a good cry once in a while, so turn on the sad music light some candles and cry
-make one best friend. you need someone who has your back always...focus on finding that one person not finding a million it's easier to keep track
-date as many guys as you can...no that doesn't mean sleep with them, date them. you'll never know exactly what you want in a man until you know what you don't.
-don't say you'll never do something. circumstances always change, you never know what will happen tomorrow
-live for today, dream for tomorrow; your past is your history...learn from it, benefit from it, but don't keep reliving it.
-dance in the rain.
-learn from your mistakes. it's a mistake once, after that it's a choice.
That's all I've got right now...more to come later. I've got some time to finish it...no kids for a while :)
my mind isn't quite empty but it's feeling a lot better. maybe i'll unload a little more later.
peace&love
